As the sun rises on another spectacular day in Tucson, Joel and Madeleine Shulman are once again grateful for the beautiful place they call home. Even though it's been more than 30 years since they left the snowy winters of Chicago for the Arizona desert, not a day goes by that the Shulmans take the sunshine and friendly community for granted.

In their time away from work, Madeleine enjoys painting, Joel loves to cheer on the U of A teams and they both treasure time spent with their seven grandchildren in the area.

A Bright Spirit
Both the children of small business owners, Joel and Madeleine shared an entrepreneurial spirit from the very beginning. After meeting on Madeleine’s 18th birthday on the banks of Lake Michigan during summertime, the two eventually married and opened a restaurant in Chicago—and their business partnership blossomed from there. Never afraid to pursue their dreams together, they moved to Tucson and continued their expertise in the restaurant business, operating a popular local steakhouse for many years, all the while raising their family of three children.

Life's New Challenges
New challenges and opportunities beckoned the Shulmans and they ultimately started their own custom clothing retail store in the early 1980s and, later, a successful car stereo company in the heart of the city. For the Shulmans, business has always been a family affair—their daughters worked in the clothing store, and their son was a top salesman at the car stereo company. Indeed, Joel and Madeleine have always found that business is best when they’re following their dreams together.
